Nintendo Plans to Sell Four Million Wiis before 2007

Engadget has the full run down from this AM’s Nintendo press conference where they announced the North American details about Wii. Included in there is an interesting clarification: while earlier news items mentioned Nintendo shipping 4 million consoles by the end of the year, there was some confusion about whether it was the calendar year (i.e. December 31) or Nintendo’s fiscal calendar, which ends mid-way through 2007.

Turns out they meant calendar year, and not only that they plan to ship four million units, that they plan to sell four million of them. That’s twice as many consoles as Sony hopes to ship through the end of the year. Surely Sony will sell through whatever they ship, but can Nintendo really sell four million Wiis? Methinks they can…
