Pastrana Invades McRae’s Game

DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road

It seems that perhaps Codemasters is realizing that Colin McRae, though recently drafted back into action and still a beloved figure, is more or less sitting on the sidelines of the rally scene at this point. So, they’re going for some young blood with Travis Pastrana, a moto-cross-cum-rally-star who is doing a lot to up the notoriety of the rally scene here in the US.

That’s all well and good, but those insanely good looking graphics should go a long way in the notoriety department as well. The full press release follows, along with a few new screens, but we still don’t haven’t learned much more about this game since we got our first glimpse back in July. At this point we do know it’s a PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 game, and will ship sometime next year. Oh, and that it features a Subaru, a few RAID trucks, and a certain boxy looking Audi that needs no introduction.

After Winning First-Ever Rally at 12th Summer X Games, Codemasters Signs The U.S. Race Pro For Next-Gen Off-Road Racer

Los Angeles (October 4, 2006) – Codemasters today announced it has signed a non-exclusive agreement with U.S. pro racer Travis Pastrana, the star of this year’s summer X Games and winner of the first ever X Games Rally event, to feature in DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road, scheduled for release in 2007.

DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road is the next generation of the genre leading, 8-million+ selling racing series. Set to be the most diverse and exhilarating off-road racing experience, the game is now in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC.

Travis will contribute his voice for DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road as the pre-competition presenter and introduce players to forthcoming race events, specific stages and car characteristics. If players blaze a trail to glory, he’ll be ready to congratulate them on their performance and let them know if they’re ready to advance to tougher championships.

On August 5th, Travis won the gold medal in the rally event in the 12th summer X Games, held in Los Angeles. Ironically, in doing so, he knocked co-competitor Colin McRae into second place after McRae spectacularly rolled his car through the last jump.

“It was awesome to compete against McRae in this year’s summer X Games and even better to win the first rally event in the series,” said Travis Pastrana. “I’ve admired Colin McRae for a long time and the McRae games have an incredible reputation as the best in their field. It’s very cool to now be directly involved in the production of DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road and to be able to share my enthusiasm for rallying and off-road racing with gamers.”

Born October 8, 1983 in Annapolis, Maryland, Travis is a Moto X champion and has competed professionally in rally events since 2003’s Race of Champions. He has driven the Subaru WRX STi for the Subaru-sponsored Vermont SportsCar team and currently leads the driver standings in the Rally America National Championship. In addition to winning the 12th summer X Games rally, he received the Moto X Best Trick Gold for pulling the first-ever double back flip in the competition, and won the Moto X Freestyle event.
