Think you’ve got what it takes to beat the best in NASCAR 08? EA’s giving you a chance to prove it, and possibly win some cash in the process … assuming you live somewhere near one of the 11 US cities hosting the events. There will be a series of qualifying rounds held at Sears and Wal-Mart stores near tracks at places like Loudon and Dover. There will be multiple qualifying rounds in each city with the winners getting a chance to fly to Florida to compete for a $10,000 prize. You can get the full details at the Craftsman site.

The Lotus 7 was hugely popular as an every man’s racer due to its phenomenal performance and (relatively) low price. The rights to the car are now owned by niche marque Caterham and though the look of the vehicles hasn’t changed much in decades, their performance has, with ever newer selections of motors being bolted in to drive acceleration figures lower and lower. As performance has increased so too has the price, making these pocket rockets natural choices for the sim racing world. As such they can be found in one form or another in three of the most popular racing sims of the day: Live For Speed, RACE, and rFactor. Jens “McGonigle” Lindblad over at SimHQ has seen fit to compare the renditions of the cars in the three games, drawing some inevitable differences between the sims but, impressively, finding far more similarities.

One of our favorite and most challenging tracks in all of motorsport has been re-made for rFactor. Donington Park has played host to some of the most historic races in modern motorsports and deserves any amount of attention given to it. This is a new conversion of the track including higher quality textures than earlier ones and has been given the blessing of RSC. You can download it from the usual source for all things rFactor.

When Ubisoft announced Nitrobike at E3 a few months back everyone pretty much assumed the game would be a Wii exclusive because, frankly, it just wouldn’t fly elsewhere. Well, with the game not really getting much buzz post-announcement Ubi has seen fit to announce the game a second time, this time confirming Wii exclusivity and that the game will be released in November of this year. They also play up the roots of the games developers, who are the guys behind Excitebike 64, which bodes well!

Team Xbox has posted a new video showing off the career mode in ProStreet which, say what you want about the rest of the game, should be somewhat fun. Unfortunately it’s not something able to be embedded here, so if you’re interested head on over to Team Xbox.

We’re a little under two months away from the release of the rebirth of the Sega Rally franchise, and if you’re as eager to start getting muddy as we are, you’ll want to check out the new “Tropical” themed trailer of the game, showing off lots of trees, ocean, and, go figure, mud.

It was definitely a system seller for the PSP, GT4 Mobile, but it was one of the strangest system sellers yet given that, nearly three years after the system’s release, the game still doesn’t exist. Last year, in fact, the game was rated as #7 on the list of top vaporware of 2006, and since then there hasn’t been any indication that things will get better. But, that’s all changing with indication that the game may actually beat Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to stores. That seems somewhat unlikely to us, but we’ll surely be tracking this one closely.
UPDATE: It seems our immediate source got the translation wrong from the original German. GT4 Mobile will not drop until after GT5 hits stores, making it sound a lot more like vaporware again …

Fatal Inertia wasn’t the first PS3 game to have its release pushed back, but going from PS3 exclusive to Xbox 360 exclusive at one point (and back again), it’s certainly been one of the more publicized ones. Now, Evil Avatar has a report on a few more floundering PS3 racers. Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights has gone from a September release to an October release on the PS3 and PSP, while the 360, DS, and PS2 versions are still on track for Sept.
Meanwhile, Stuntman: Ignition has been the subject of another indefinite delay on the PS3. 360 and PS2 versions are still slated to drop at the end of this month, but there’s no longer any estimate given for when the PS3 release will drop.

WorthPlaying has word on the next update to Forza Motorsport 2, one that would pick up where the last update left off. This one would fix the Elan bug, allowing that car to return to the online rankings, as well as a whole suite of other smaller glitches and cheats. No word on an anticipated release date, but given it’s currently being tested, expect it to show up online within the next few weeks.

If you happen to live somewhere other than the US or Japan and were hoping to take a spin in the Fatal Inertia demo, you’ve been kinda frustrated for now as those are the only territories it was made available. That should have changed according to CVG, who state the demo is now available in European territories. Happy hovering.
