New Cars and “Hardcore” Physics for Test Drive Unlimited

TDU on Xbox 360

After a long, long drought, Test Drive Unlimited on the 360 is getting some new life to perhaps make Xbox gamers feel like picking it up again while PS2, PSP, and PC gamers are about to be able to pick it up for the first time.

The first new addition is a Cadillac CTS-V, free to download (though you’ll still have to spend in-game cash to add it to your stable). That car is also included in the “Test Drive Racers Guild #2 Download Set”, which at 350 Marketplace points (a little over $4) includes the following tasty choices:

  • Ferrari F40
  • CHRYSLER Crossfire SRT6 Roadster
  • RUF Rturbo
  • Audi S6
  • Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible 1971
  • Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR
  • Cadillac CTS-V

Finally, there’s the new so-called Hardcore Mode, a tweak to the game that enables those of Champion status to unlock “ultra-realistic driving physics.” Fan reactions to the 160 point ($2) add-on are generally positive, though it seems once you enable Hardcore Mode you can’t compete in any of the single-player challenges. This is seemingly because, without the unrealistic grip of the game’s normal physics, it would be very difficult if not impossible to complete many of those quests. You can still play online in Hardcore mode, or you can go back to normal mode to continue play offline, but it’s a shame they couldn’t get everything working, especially since they’re charging for it, even if it is only a few bucks…

Thanks to CaptDS9E for the heads up
